At approximately 12:15 p.m. today, Lancaster County 911 received a report of a domestic disturbance occurring at the U-Save Pharmacy in Waverly, at 13851 Gilford Street. Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers responded.

Deputies located a Dodge flatbed pickup that was believed to be involved and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled on numerous streets through Waverly. Troopers joined the pursuit. At one point the pickup came to a stop, but the driver refused to comply with officers’ commands to exit the vehicle. The driver then accelerated and fled again.

The pursuit continued on various streets throughout Waverly before the pickup spun-out at the intersection of Highway 6 and Amberly Road. As multiple patrol vehicle attempted to box-in the pickup, the driver accelerated in reverse, ramming into a trooper’s cruiser. The trooper was still inside the cruiser at the time of the collision. A trooper discharged his firearm a single time, but the shot did not strike the subject.

Additional units were able to box-in the suspect, who continued ramming patrol vehicles. Five units were damaged between LSO and NSP. Deputies and Troopers then utilized tasers, pepperball, and foam projectiles. The suspect was then taken into custody with minor injuries.

The suspect has been identified at Trenton Engel, 34, of Lincoln. He was transported to Bryan Health West Campus for medical clearance. Following medical clearance, he will be lodged in Lancaster County Jail. Charges are pending.

No law enforcement officers suffered serious injuries as a result of this incident. The victim of the domestic disturbance was located and is safe.

The investigation is ongoing. More details will be released at 9:30 am, October 9, at the Hall of Justice Media Briefing, which will also be livestreamed on the LSO Facebook page.
