Troopers Make 80 DUI Arrests in End-of-Summer Campaign
Nebraska State Troopers removed 80 impaired drivers from the road during the last few weeks of the summer travel season. The arrests came during a nationwide campaign focused on impaired driving, called Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
“The last few weeks have been filled with high-traffic events across Nebraska, and more are on the way,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Our troopers remained busy across the state during the final weeks of the summer travel season as well.”
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign ran from August 16 through September 1. Troopers across Nebraska were working overtime on patrol for impaired and other dangerous driving behaviors.
In addition to the 80 drivers arrested for driving under the influence, troopers also issued citations for speeding (1,825), open alcohol container (51), no seat belt (48), improper child restraint (20), minor in possession of alcohol (26), driving under suspension (100), and failure to move over (12). Troopers also stopped 90 drivers for speeding at over 100 miles per hour.
During the summer driving season, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, troopers arrested over 400 drivers for DUI and stopped 373 drivers for speeding at over 100 miles per hour. Troopers also performed over 3,500 motorists assists.
“No matter the season, our troopers remain committed to keeping Nebraska roadways safe,” said Colonel Waugh. “We need that same dedication from Nebraska motorists as well. Do your part to help others reach their destination safely.”
