Troopers Make 32 DUI Arrests of Independence Day Weekend
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 32 impaired drivers from the road over the Independence Day Weekend.
“This weekend included celebrations across the state and many people who made the wise decision to avoid driving impaired,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “As the summer continues with local events, county fairs, and concerts, always make sure a sober driver is part of your planning.”
This effort coincided with a national campaign, which ran from July 3 through July 6. Throughout Independence Day Weekend, troopers performed high visibility patrols and traffic control around many community gatherings, while watching for impaired drivers.
In addition to the 32 arrests for driving under the influence, troopers also issued 536 citations for speeding. Twenty-six of those speeders were driving over 100 miles per hour. Troopers also issued citations for driving under suspension (30), open alcohol container (12), minor in possession of alcohol (10), no seat belt (15), and improper child restraint (10). Troopers also performed 166 motorist assists over the weekend.
This effort was made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
