As fireworks light the sky this weekend, Nebraska State Troopers will be on patrol across the state, working to keep roadways safe as we celebrate American’s 250th birthday.
“250 years is an incredible milestone for our country, and we join all Americans in celebrating our great nation,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Independence Day means events of all sizes across our state. No matter where or how you celebrate, make sure you have a sober driver ready to get you home. It’s our Troopers’ mission to keep roads safe and help everyone remember this milestone for the celebrations, rather than a tragedy on the road.”
NSP is joining police agencies across the country in a nationwide campaign focused on impaired driving. The campaign began Thursday July 2 and runs through July 6. So far in 2026, troopers have made 653 arrests for driving under the influence.
NSP reminds all motorists to ensure that you have a sober driver. There are many options to find a sober ride, including ridesharing apps, taxis, designated drivers, or programs like AAA’s Tow to Go program, which is available all weekend by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO.
This effort is made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation - Highway Safety Office.
