The State Capitol Security Division has been under the command of the Nebraska State Patrol since 2004.

The Capitol Security staff fosters a safe environment for the public, state employees, elected and appointed officials in the Capitol Complex area, including the Capitol Building, State Office Building, Information Systems Building, Executive Building and Governor's Residence.

The Capitol Security Division also monitors facilities for the Lincoln Regional Center, Department of Road, State Treasurer, Secretary of State, Health and Human Services (Lincoln, Hastings, Grand Island and North Platte), Workmen's Compensation Court, Whitehall Complex for Department of Corrections and the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory.

In all, the Capitol Security Division monitors 48 buildings and eight parking facilities in the greater Lincoln area. Duties also include the documentation of reported and observed incidents and parking enforcement.

The Capitol Security Division's mission to provide daily security needs within their assigned area of responsibility is accomplished through the combines operations of patrol techniques, electronic access control, video surveillance, and fixed posts. Members of the Capitol Security staff, respond to routine and emergency calls for service, and work closely with the Executive Protection Detail, troopers and local law enforcement agencies.
