October 5, 2016 (Grand Island, Neb.)  — For the second year in a row, a heavily traveled four-lane highway in Hall County was fatality free during a seven month-long special enforcement conducted by Troop C- Grand Island.

Between March 1 and Sept. 30, troopers joined with the Grand Island Police Department to conduct special selectives at intersections on Highway 281 in Grand Island.

28 special selectives were held during the effort designed to reduce the potential for serious injury and fatality crashes. In addition to raising awareness, troopers issued citations and warnings for speeding (76), no seat belt (30), driving under suspension (2), no proof of insurance 92) and open container (1).

“Achieving zero fatalities on this very busy stretch of roadway could not have been done without the help of the motoring public,” said Captain Chris Kolb, Commander Troop C-Grand Island. “We want to thank everyone for their efforts and continue to encourage voluntary compliance with all traffic safety laws.”

The special enforcement was paid for thanks in part to a $7,672 grant from the Department of Roads Highway Safety Office. ###
