Troopers Conduct 410 Inspections during Roadcheck 2016

(Lincoln, Neb.)- A total of 410 inspections on commercial motor vehicles were conducted by troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division during “Roadcheck 2016”.

Roadcheck 2016 is a three day special enforcement effort designed to raise public awareness of commercial motor vehicle safety throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. From Tuesday-Thursday, June 7-9, troopers checked vehicles and drivers at inspection sites along the Interstate and major highways in Nebraska. In addition, roving patrols also inspected vehicles and drivers traveling other roadways.

Troopers conducted 328 Level I inspections.  A Level I inspection is a comprehensive check of the vehicle and its driver.  A total of 44 Level II inspections (driver and walk-around vehicle check) and 38 Level III inspections (driver only), were also conducted during the special enforcement effort.

Of the 410 vehicles inspected, 72 were taken out of service (not allowed to continue on the road). Vehicles are placed out of service for violations relating to bad brakes, or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks. In addition, 20 drivers were taken out of service (not allowed to continue driving). Drivers are taken out of service for violations to include No Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

This is the 29th year for the international effort sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), North America’s leading commercial vehicle safety enforcement organization. ###
