Joint Effort Results in Arrest for Sex Solicitation

(South Sioux City, Neb.)- On Wednesday June 1 and Thursday June 2, officers of the Nebraska State Patrol, South Sioux City Police Department, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, joined in an undercover effort to battle Internet Crimes Against Children. The joint operation, “To Catch a Predator”, used the internet with law enforcement officers posing as a 15-year-old male, responding to an advertisement on a popular web-site.

Officers used text messages and email to communicate with a man later identified as Douglas Furlich, 60, of Lawton, IA, who was soliciting sex from a minor.

Furlich was arrested late Thursday afternoon, June 2, after arriving at a pre-arranged location in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was charged with Sexual Assault by an Electronic Communication Device, and was lodged at the Dakota County Jail.

Lt. Dan Wilson of the Nebraska State Patrol reminds parents and children, “extreme caution should be used when on the web. You just don’t really know who is on the other side. This is a prime example of that.”   ###
