Two Arrested in Lincoln with Assistance from NSP AirWing
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested two people in Lincoln this weekend with the assistance of the NSP AirWing.
Friday at approximately 11:00 p.m., a trooper observed a Mitsubishi Lancer speeding on O Street near 70th Street in Lincoln. The trooper attempted a traffic stop. The driver turned northbound onto Skyway Road and accelerated. The trooper did not pursue, as pilots with the NSP AirWing acquired a visual and tracked the vehicle from the air. Another trooper attempted a traffic stop near 79th and Holdrege, but the vehicle fled a second time. NSP pilots tracked the vehicle as it fled westbound on Holdrege, turned northbound onto N 62nd Street, drove through a yard, and struck a parked car. The driver then stopped the vehicle on Glendale Road and fled on foot.
Troopers responded to the area as NSP pilots tracked the fleeing subject through multiple backyards. An NSP K9 was able to track the subject to a garage at a residence near 64th and Francis. Troopers contacted the homeowner who assisted providing entry into the garage.
The suspect was located hiding in the garage attic rafters. Maliq Coleman, 19, of Lincoln, was lodged in Lancaster County Jail for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, criminal mischief, and trespassing.
Saturday at approximately 9:20 p.m., a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle near 27th and Superior Streets. The motorcycle rider fled at a high rate of speed. The trooper did not pursue as NSP pilots acquired a visual and tracked the subject from the air. The rider stopped and entered a residence near 7th and Y Streets. Troopers arrived at that location attempted to contact the subject, who refused to exit the residence for several minutes. The rider eventually exited voluntarily and was taken into custody without further incident.
Alejandro Martinez, 21, of Omaha, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, obstructing a peace officer, no motorcycle license, and several traffic violations. He was lodged in Lancaster County Jail.
