Troopers Wrap-Up Summer Speeding Enforcement Campaign in Omaha
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have completed a summer-long series of enforcement campaigns focused on exhibition speeding in and around the Omaha metro. During the campaign, troopers worked with local officers and deputies to make numerous contacts with drivers for excessive speeds.
“Keeping traffic moving safely in the metro is a major team effort of several agencies,” said Captain Greg Miller, Commander of Troop A. “The issue of excessive speeding is not new to Omaha roadways, so renewing this effort with our public safety partners was important to keep travel safe around the metro this summer.”
The special enforcement campaigns focused on several weekend evenings throughout the summer. During those operations, troopers issued 104 citations for speeding, arrested five drivers for reckless driving, and made four arrests for driving under the influence.
“We’d like to thank our partners with the Omaha Police Department, Douglas and Sarpy County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as law enforcement partners in Iowa for their assistance at times during these efforts,” said Captain Miller. “Aerial support from the NSP AirWing and OPD’s Able 1 were also important for this effort.”
Throughout the summer, Omaha-based troopers working daily patrol operations stopped 257 drivers for speeding at over 90 miles per hour, including 84 for speeding at or above 100 miles per hour. Troopers also made 77 arrests for driving under the influence in the metro area.
