LSO Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Lincoln

November 24, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that involved investigators with the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force. The incident occurred in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the task force, including a Nebraska State Patrol investigator and a Lincoln Police Department investigator, were investigating a tip when they attempted to contact a vehicle near 19th and G streets in Lincoln. Preliminary investigation indicates that as the investigators attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle, the investigators observed a firearm. A struggle ensued during which the NSP investigator discharged his duty weapon a single time, striking the subject. The passenger of the vehicle was not injured and was taken into custody.

Investigators rendered first-aid until paramedics arrived on scene. The subject was then transported to a local hospital and is undergoing treatment at this time. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Neither investigator was seriously injured in the incident.

The Nebraska State Patrol has requested that the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office conduct an investigation into the incident. In accordance with NSP policy, the investigator has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
