Special DUI Enforcement Planned for Sheridan County

June 26, 2017 (Scottsbluff, Neb.)  — In an effort to reduce the potential for serious injury and fatality crashes
specifically related to drunk-driving, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Troop E – Scottsbluff will conduct a special
DUI enforcement in and around Sheridan County.

Over the past 3½ years, six of the nine fatal crashes that occurred in Sheridan County involved alcohol. Each of
those fatalities involved unrestrained drivers or passengers. The special enforcement will include vehicle checks
and high-visibility patrols during all hours of the day between July 1 and August 15.

“The summer months bring increased traffic to the road with tourists visiting or passing through the area and
numerous community events and celebrations going on,” said Major Mike Gaudreault, NSP Field Services
Commander. “With this special enforcement, we hope to encourage voluntary compliance with all traffic safety
laws by making our troopers visible and available.”

Motorists are reminded to always wear their seat belt, obey posted speed limits, pay extra attention in work zones,
and never drive impaired or distracted.

A grant for $12,375 from the Nebraska Department of Roads Highway Safety Office (NDOR-HSO) will help pay
for the special enforcement effort.
