State Patrol Employees of the Year Honored at Capitol Ceremony

November 2, 2016 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — On November 2, sworn and civilian employees of the Nebraska State Patrol were recognized as employees and supervisor/managers of the year.

Trooper Kent Kavan #341, honored as the sworn employee of the year, is a 29-year veteran of the Nebraska State Patrol assigned to Headquarters Troop-Lincoln. Trp. Kavan is being honored for his untiring work ethic and strong commitment to traffic safety. A well-known and respected member of the communities in which he serves, Trp. Kavan promotes the lifesaving role seat belts play in saving lives through high enforcement activities promoting seat belt usage.

Troop A-Omaha, Staff Assistant I- Samantha Myers was honored as the civilian employee of the year. Over a period of four months (Feb.-May) nearly 6,000 fingerprint applications were completed in Troop A-Omaha with Myers the only fulltime employee assigned to this responsibility. During the time period, she also trained two other staff assistants. Her performance reflects her professionalism and dedication to the citizens and the agency.

Lieutenant Jeff Roby #224, a 20-year agency veteran, was honored as the sworn supervisor/manager of the year. Upon his promotion and assignment to the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy (NSPTA), Lt. Roby took it upon himself to evaluate the Agency’s Training Schedule for Camp 57. Through his leadership, schedule changes resulted in a savings to the agency in both overtime and meal expenses, without sacrificing the integrity of the training process, assuring for well-trained, highly motivated, leadership minded troopers.

The civilian supervisor/manager of the year honor goes to Accounting and Finance Controller, Carol Aversman. Her clear and timely direction to her staff, has resulted in improved operations and sound management practices within the Agency’s Accounting Division. A tireless professional who understands every facet of the administrative process in state government, Carol is a true asset to the agency.

The award recipients were honored during a ceremony held in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. A reception following the ceremony was held at the Governor’s residence. ###
