October 19, 2016 (Norfolk, Neb.)  — A nearly $26,000 donation from State Farm Insurance will aid the Nebraska State Patrol in its efforts to promote teen driver safety as it works to reduce the number of young drivers involved in serious injury and fatality crashes.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, representatives from the Nebraska State Patrol, State Farm Insurance, Northeast Community College, and the Nebraska State Patrol Foundation unveiled a driving simulator and transportation trailer.

“Unfortunately motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for Nebraska teens,” said Field Services Major Mike Gaudreault. “We want to thank State Farm Insurance for its generous donation. By working together, we are able to address an issue that affects us all.”

The Ultra Cockpit Driving Simulator was purchased from Simulator Systems, International. Utilizing three computer screens for wide angle viewing, the driving simulator provides users with more than 200 realistic driving scenarios and exercises that not only test their driving skills but draw attention to the complex thought process required for safe driving.

“Getting a driver’s license is an exciting time for teens and it should be,” said State Farm Agent Kevin Brandt. “By supporting the Nebraska State Patrol’s efforts to provide hands-on educational learning, we are helping teens make safe, smart choices as they celebrate the freedom that comes with being able to drive.”

This is the second driving simulator donated to the Nebraska State Patrol by State Farm Insurance. The first simulator was received in 2013 and is utilized statewide. The new driving simulator will be managed by Troop B-Norfolk. Safety program requests can be made through the Nebraska State Patrol website, Safety Programs webpage. ###
