Scotts Bluff County Special Enforcement Planned

September 27, 2016 (Lincoln, Neb.)  — Increasing seat belt usage and intersection safety will be the focus of a six-week long special enforcement effort planned for Scotts Bluff County.

Over the past three years there have been 14 motor vehicle fatalities in Scotts Bluff County. Five of the fatal crashes occurred at intersections. Twelve of the people killed were not wearing seat belts.

“Our troopers will be working hard to ensure motorists are not only buckled up, but are paying needed attention at intersections,” said Captain Jamey Balthazor, Commander Troop E- Scottsbluff. “From stopping at lights and stop signs, to making proper turns and yielding the right of way, our goal is raise awareness and hopefully save lives in the process.”

From October 1 through November 15, troopers will conduct high visibility patrols on roadways in Scotts Bluff County, thanks in part to a $6,600 grant from the Department of Roads Highway Safety Office.

Captain Balthazor said, “Always wear your seat belt, and never drive impaired or distracted. Through voluntarily compliance with all traffic safety laws you make the difference.” ###
