Nebraska State Patrol Graduates 57th Recruit Class

(Lincoln, Neb.)- The 57th Basic Recruit Class of the Nebraska State Patrol graduated at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 19. The ceremony was held in the Rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol, 1445 K Street, Lincoln. Remarks were provided by Governor Pete Ricketts, Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley, Attorney General Doug Peterson, and Nebraska Superintendent, Colonel Brad Rice. The Oath of Office was administered by Secretary of State John Gale.

The 19 members of the class, 15 males, four females, completed 23 weeks of training at the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy in Grand Island. Their instruction involved 1018.5 academic hours and 34 exams including both written and practical. Sixteen new troopers are assigned to Traffic in the Field Services Division, while three are assigned to the Carrier Enforcement Division.

Recruit Tyler Kirchner received the Superintendent’s Leadership Award, while the D.R. Shearer Marksmanship Award was given to Recruit Justin Raes. Recruit Justin Raes also received the O.H. Witt Academic Achievement Award, and the R.J. Buchholz Physical Fitness Award was presented to Recruit Jordan Grabill. A newly added award, the Captain Mark Williams Core Values Achievement Award, was presented to Recruit Ryan Stirn. The new award is in honor of Training Academy Captain Mark Williams, who passed away in 2015 following a battle with cancer.

The newly badged troopers will now undergo six months of on-the-job instruction with veteran troopers in the field.
