Each year, officers from the Nebraska State Patrol join more than 200 officers from local, county and federal agencies for the Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grassroots fund raising and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run traditionally begins in Scottsbluff, Nebrska and concludes with Opening Ceremonies at Creighton University in Omaha.

The Torch Run is described by participants as a heartwarming experience and a terrific opportunity for law enforement officers to interact with citizens from all across the state in a positive environment.

Anyone interested in purchasing a Law Enforcement Torch Run T-shirt, offering a monetary donation, or volunteering with Special Olympics Nebraska may call the Special Olympics office in Omaha, Nebraska, at 1-800-247-0105 or visit their website at http://www.sone.org/ for more information.

The Special Olympics oath says a lot about the organization, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."  The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with mental retardation, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, build self-confidence, and share friendships.
