The Professional Standards Division is commanded by a Staff Captain and is under the direct supervision of the Superintendent’s Office.  The Division has four components: Accreditation/Inspections/Policy, Internal Affairs, Legal and Legislative Liaison.

As a whole the Professional Standards Division is tasked with ensuring that the infrastructure of the agency is such that the agency and its employees can perform with a high level of professionalism, thereby providing a high level of public service.  The goal of the Division is to ensure uniformity of professional conduct within the agency through the development and deployment of agency policy, the proper application of those policies, an internal inspections process and an administrative investigation process when alleged misconduct occurs.

The Division of Professional Standards is under the Command of Captain Julie Maaske.  Captain Maaske serves as the agency’s Legislative Liaison and is responsible for and oversees the Divisions of Internal Affairs, the Legal Division and the Accreditation/Policy/Accreditation Division.

Since joining the Patrol in 1986, Captain Maaske has served in Road Operations, Investigative Services and Administrative Services.  Prior to assuming her current responsibilities she served as the Administrative Services Division Captain, where she was responsible for numerous support divisions, the coordination of homeland security activities and was a member of the State Emergency Response Commission.

Captain Maaske was appointed Director of the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy (NSPTA) in February of 2000.   During her tenure, the NSPTA was relocated to its current site in Grand Island, Nebraska and collocated with the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (NLETC). Captain Maaske is a 2006 graduate of the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska in Criminal Justice.
