Fr. Steve Thomlison was appointed as the first Nebraska State Patrol Chaplain in June 2010. He received both a Masters of Divinity degree and a Masters of Arts (Theology - Sacred Scripture) from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, PA and a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) from St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward.
Fr. Thomlison is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. (ICISF) and is a member of the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
Fr. Thomlison conducted his Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in downtown Philadelphia which is a level 1 trauma center operating with the PENNStar Flight program serving a total population in excess of 15 million. U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in the Top Ten of best hospitals in American in its annual survey.
A 23-year veteran of the Nebraska Army National Guard, Fr. Thomlison is currently an Army Chaplain candidate serving men and women of the Armed Forces of all denominations. He has mobilized twice for duty by the Governor to respond to emergencies with the State of Nebraska and has mobilized three times for overseas tours, including two hazardous duty assignments to the Balkans. Fr. Thomlison is a former enlisted Master Sergeant (E8) and is graduate of the BattleStaff Non-Commissioned Officer Course at the USA Sergeants major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas, and a graduate of the Chaplain Officer Leadership Course at Fort. Jackson, South Carolina.
Fr. Thomlison is an ordained Roman Catholic Priest from the Diocese of Lincoln. He is assigned as the assistant pastor at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ and teaches senior Religion Classes at Pius X High School. Born and was raised in Kearney, he is a fifth generation Nebraskan.
